![]() ![]() About 10 years ago, HTML5 revolutionized how websites responded on an exploding market of mobile devices, and we now have a decent-sized market of tools that author web-friendly content: content that reflows in accordance with learners’ expectations, can be read by screen readers, and requires far less in terms of proprietary plugins. Added to that, the time spent reworking learning experiences when something changes can be even more significant, and can make it difficult to respond quickly to changes in policies and current events.Īside from the authoring speed, reflowable text is also very powerful in terms of the improved experience on the learner side. And while we all love art, it’s worth questioning whether the time spent pays off in terms of instructional effectiveness. It’s hard to overstate the speed improvement of authoring reflowable content, as opposed to authoring slides.Īnd what benefit did all of that lining up text in slide-based tools deliver for my learners? There’s no doubt that affect is important, but what if I could have achieved a polished, professional, attractive appearance without spending all that time? Slide-based tools provide an excellent canvas for highly visual, beautiful work, but they can also set up the expectation that you need to create art. There was far less re-work than I normally had to do. ![]() ![]() If I needed to change something, the rest of the content just… adjusted around it. I was aware that the toolset I was working with was limited, but holy moly was it easier to create something that looked good, as compared to slide-based tools. The first time I used an authoring tool that was built for authoring reflowable text (in my case, Rise), the staggering number of hours in my career that I had spent lining things up just right in slide-based tools (like Lectora, Captivate, and Storyline) loomed large in my head. However, I suspect most of us aren’t aware how much time we’re spending on processes that just aren’t necessary… things that can even be eliminated without decreasing instructional effectiveness. Speed that comes at the expense of design is almost always ill advised (although there are times that emergency circumstances may override our best intentions). Due to the pandemic, the demand for shovelware almost certainly spiked about a year ago, and depending on your organization, it may still be standard operating procedure. For example, most instructional designers get asked to do a lot of shovelware (taking policy documents and PowerPoints from in-person training and “shoveling” them quickly into eLearning). Those improvements come from doing the same thing more efficiently (and, often, better).īut it’s worth taking a look at where speed improvements come from. and I’ll never turn down a new computer that performs better than one that’s gotten old and sluggish. An instructional designer’s expertise usually improves speed, for example. It’s not that speed is inherently a bad thing. Finally, you'll learn how to ensure your eLearning can be used by people with disabilities by adding such 508-compliant features as accessibility text, keyboard shortcuts, and closed captions and how to enable Captivate’s reporting features.I’m wary of tools that promise “rapid” authoring. You will learn to create branch groups and create branching scenarios that allow learners to plot their own path through your course. You will learn to create object styles, apply them globally, and import and export them. You will learn to fine-tune your Captivate production skills by leveraging object styles, master slides, themes, and advanced actions and how to engage your learners by adding variables, widgets, and learner interactions (including drag and drop) to your eLearning. ![]() You will learn how to use virtual reality with 360-degree images and videos and how to create interactive videos that include knowledge checks and other interactive objects. You will create responsive lessons (using Fluid Boxes and Breakpoints) that automatically reflow to fit just about any kind of display, including desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones. In this Adobe Captivate training course, you will create a highly interactive software simulation and learn to control the text that appears in the recording’s text captions by editing Captivate’s text capture templates. ![]() ![]() ![]() I guess they're commercial use too, as in you can hopefully promote your products using them, but please, people always try to package these free resources and sell them on Gumroad, etc., please don't. Paul tells us to: “ Celebrate always, pray constantly, and give thanks to God no matter what circumstances you find yourself in.” ( 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) Sitting down to eat provides time to reflect on the day, thank God, and bring our concerns before Him. Dinner and mealtime prayers are essential conversations with God. ![]() ![]() ![]() A simplified variant called VQ-VAE-2 avoids these issues by using feedforward encoders and decoders only, and they show impressive results at generating high-fidelity images. Hierarchical VQ-VAEs can generate short instrumental pieces from a few sets of instruments, however they suffer from hierarchy collapse due to use of successive encoders coupled with autoregressive decoders. Jukebox’s autoencoder model compresses audio to a discrete space, using a quantization-based approach called VQ-VAE. Now in raw audio, our models must learn to tackle high diversity as well as very long range structure, and the raw audio domain is particularly unforgiving of errors in short, medium, or long term timing. Our previous work on MuseNet explored synthesizing music based on large amounts of MIDI data. We chose to work on music because we want to continue to push the boundaries of generative models. We can then train a model to generate audio in this compressed space, and upsample back to the raw audio space. One way of addressing the long input problem is to use an autoencoder that compresses raw audio to a lower-dimensional space by discarding some of the perceptually irrelevant bits of information. Thus, to learn the high level semantics of music, a model would have to deal with extremely long-range dependencies. For comparison, GPT-2 had 1,000 timesteps and OpenAI Five took tens of thousands of timesteps per game. A typical 4-minute song at CD quality (44 kHz, 16-bit) has over 10 million timesteps. Generating music at the audio level is challenging since the sequences are very long. A different approach is to model music directly as raw audio. ![]() īut symbolic generators have limitations-they cannot capture human voices or many of the more subtle timbres, dynamics, and expressivity that are essential to music. This has led to impressive results like producing Bach chorals, polyphonic music with multiple instruments, as well as minute long musical pieces. A prominent approach is to generate music symbolically in the form of a piano roll, which specifies the timing, pitch, velocity, and instrument of each note to be played. Automatic music generation dates back to more than half a century. ![]() ![]() ![]() With what had just happened, I was afraid to delete a wall to make a different exit because I wasn't sure what all above it that would destroy. I also reinforced things so that I feel safe deleting one of the outer walls if I should ever get trapped by a wolf spider camping by that door in the future. I built a door into the crawlspace from the outside now, realizing I might need to get under in the future. And the spider was sitting right by that hole. At that time, the only access to that "under the floor crawlspace" was one missing floor tile above. I usually build a starting base on top of the base ball and I always make sure to hang out on top of it during those first nights because I always see the wolf spiders pass by within visible distance and if I am building or cutting down grass and such at least one of them will always drop by. If you make noise too close to them when they are sleeping during the day you might wake them up too.I've had daytime visits too though that usually happens later when I start exploring further from the starting area. And they usually wander right past not far from the starting area on their nightly hunting trips, so if you're active during the night they'll often drop by to check out what's going on. When you roam around making noise during the night you can draw their attention because they hunt during the night. Such a high degree of parental care is relatively unusual among spiders. They are attracted to noise/activity. When the spiderlings hatch, they are carried around on the female's back until they are ready to disperse by ballooning or on the ground. The female constructs an egg sac of white papery silk, shaped like a ball with an obvious circular seam, which she then carries around attached with strong silk to her spinnerets. The shape and materials used to form burrows and trapdoors may help to distinguish similar-looking species. Burrows of the Grey Wolf Spider ( Dingosa simsoni) have a circular trap door that is often left open when the spider is out hunting. In woodlands, twigs may be used to form a palisade around the top of the burrow. ![]() Arid zone species build turrets to deflect floodwaters during rainy periods, while others use pebbles to plug their burrows. Most Wolf Spiders are wanderers but some build burrows, either open or with a trapdoor, while others may make temporary retreats in vegetation. Venatrix lapidosa will take small toads and frogs while Allocosa obscuroides has been noted biting and killing a large toad within one hour. According to the Queensland Museum, two Wolf spider species are known to be predators of cane toads. Wolf Spiders mostly feed on small ground dwelling invertebrates, predominately insects, but will attack small vertebrates if given the opportunity. ![]() |
